This rapier was typical of the fine edged weapons of the 17th century European gentry. The blades of these sleek and sometimes ornate personal weapons were often crafted in Spain due to the quality of craftsmanship. Lighter in design than its earlier brethren, this sword allowed for quicker and more fluid action and attack. The elaborate bar cage of this carbon steel rapier, while decorative and attractive, was designed to protect the sword hand of the wielder.
