Joseph Orville "JO" Shelby was a noted Confederate cavalry general in the Trans-Mississippi Theater of the American Civil War. In June 1865, rather than surrender, Shelby took this sword and approximately 1,000 of his remaining troops rode south into Mexico. For their determination not to surrender, they were immortalized as "the undefeated". This fine replica has the CS initials cast into the hand guard, with C.S.A. etched into the tempered carbon steel blade. The Civil War sword features a leather handle wrapped w/twisted brass wire and comes with a black-finished steel scabbard which has brass fittings. This sword is perfect for the collector, reenactor and historian of this significant time in the history of the United States of America.
